Head of Transport

Job Introduction

Adexen was mandated by an international FMCG company to recruit an experienced Head of Transport for their operations. The position is based in Lagos, Nigeria.

Responsibilities

• Manage the development, performance and maintenance of the organisation’s transport to produce an efficient transport service, maximising performance, value and profitability against pre-agreed targets
• Ensuring that the transport team understands its duties and its role within the organisation  
• Prepare the annual Transport Budget based on volume targets from Sales and Production functions, available truck fleet, and operating parameters for the truck fleet
• Supervise all transport activities in the Company, as well as fleet management
• Track and monitor the movement of trucks
• Develop new initiatives and look for new ways to optimise the transport service offering
• Contribute to training and development of the team and organisation as a whole
• Assist in achieving maximum “customer” satisfaction in accordance with organisation plans
• Maintain responsibility for performing all duties in compliance with related legal/statutory, regulations, professional duties, responsibilities and obligations, including insurance and insert as applicable
• Ensure timely repair of trucks in order to maximise number of trucks in operation at all times
• Day to day tasks such as route planning, resource allocation and management, driver supervision
• Maintain metrics, reports, process documentation, customer service logs, training and safety records
• Minimise accidents through regular inspection and preventive maintenance
• Maintain and improve mechanisms for the operation of the transport, including surveying and measuring the satisfaction with the transport service and disseminate feedback to the appropriate internal entities
• Implement cost reduction initiatives
• Responsible for overall logistics planning
• The position reports directly to the Country GMD / CEO
• Direct reports: transport managers, workshop managers, logistics managers

Desired Skills and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree from a recognised University
• Minimum of 15 years in the Logistics and Transport Industry with at least 10 years in a Management position within an international organisation
• People management experience
• Excellent Communication
• Analytical with good decision-making skills
• Ability to manage a large multi-cultural team
