Job Introduction

    Adexen has been mandated by a leading pan-African Manufacturer and Distributor of world-class medicine and medical supplies to recruit an experienced Chief Operating Officer (CMO). The position is based in Nigeria.

Responsibilities

    The Chief Operating Officer will provide cross-functional, strategic leadership for the operation of key business functions, including but not limited to:

    Business Planning, Manufacturing & Supply Chain, Quality systems, Process Improvement & Operational Excellence, Compliance, IT Systems and HSE

    The COO will collaborate with CEO in setting and driving organizational vision, operations strategy, and hiring levels and partnering with other C-level executives accomplish short and long-term operational goals. The role owner will translate strategy into actionable steps for growth and annual operations planning.  In addition, he/she should oversee company operations, building a highly inclusive culture that ensures team members can thrive and that organizational goals are met.

     

    Business Planning:

    • Develop and implement a strategic plan that aligns with the company’s vision and business objectives.
    • Develop and maintain processes that ensure effective planning, budgeting and forecasting for all areas of the business, including manufacturing, quality control, supply chain, and customer service.
    • Ensure that all operational plans and initiatives are consistent with the overall strategic direction of the company.

     

    Manufacturing & Supply Chain:

    • Oversee the manufacturing and supply chain operations across multiple sites and locations to ensure they are efficient and cost effective.
    • Ensure production targets are met while maintaining the highest level of quality, safety and environmental compliance.
    • Monitor and control the inventory levels to ensure product availability while minimizing write-offs.
    • Mange procurement process across all sites for manufacturing and general business purposes

     

    Quality:

    •  Regularly reviewing operations to ensure that this meets required standards and recommend changes where necessary.
    • Ensure that the company’s products meet the highest quality standards and comply with all applicable regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain a quality management system that is effective, efficient and meets regulatory requirements.
    • Ensure timely and complete resolution of quality-related issues.
    • Liaise between the organisation and clients, for quality assurance purposes.

     

    Process Improvement & Operational Excellence:

    •  Analyse internal operations and identify areas for process enhancement.
    • Measure the efficiency of an organisation’s operational processes and take steps to improve them.
    • Lead the identification and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives across the organization to improve efficiency, reduce costs and improve profitability.
    • Develop and maintain a culture of operational excellence.
    • Analyse operational processes to identify the root cause of problems and take corrective action to improve processes.
    • Management and coordination of Operations across all business sites

     

    Compliance:

    • Ensure regulatory compliance across all areas of the business.
    • Monitor changes in regulatory requirements and implement changes as required.
    • Ensure that all employees are aware of their responsibilities with respect to regulatory compliance.

     

    IT Systems:

    • Ensure that the company’s IT systems are effective and support the business.
    • Develop and maintain a strong IT infrastructure to support growth and expansion.
    • Identify and implement improvements to IT systems and processes.

     

    HSE and CSR Responsibilities:

    • Ensure compliance with national and local business regulations and take appropriate action when necessary.
    • Ensure employee safety and welfare and compliance with all relevant HSE protocols.
    •  Ensure compliance with CSR policies and procedures.

Desired Skills and Experience

     

    • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy, Management, Engineering, or a related field along with a minimum of 15 years of experience in a senior management role in the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector
    • 5 or more years of experience in executive leadership roles
    • Excellent leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity
    • Understanding of advanced business planning and regulatory issues
    • strong strategic planning and problem-solving skills, and good business acumen
    • Solid grasp of data analysis and performance metrics
    • Ability to diagnose problems quickly and foresee potential issues
    • excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate with diverse teams.
    • familiarity with all relevant regulatory agencies and guidelines
    • International business experience
    • Understanding of agile methodology
