Supervisor Asphalt

Job Introduction

Adexen was mandated by a leading construction group to recruit a Senior Supervisor Asphalt. The role is based in Cotonou-Benin Republic.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance, direction, and support to team members.
• Make timely and informed decisions to address challenges or improve efficiency.
• Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members based on skills and workload.
• Establish individual and team objectives aligned with organizational goals.
• Promote and maintain a safe working environment, adherence to the company HSE policies.
• Monitor progress, set deadlines, and ensure tasks are completed on time.
• Ensure the asphalt mix meets required specifications (e.g., grade, temperature, and composition).
• Monitor work to ensure asphalt layers are laid correctly, evenly, and according to project specifications.
• Conduct or supervise testing for compaction, density, and surface smoothness.
• Review project plans, specifications, and schedules for asphalt-related work.
• Organize and allocate materials, equipment, and workforce for asphalt tasks.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other supervisors to ensure smooth project execution.
• Ensure asphalt machinery and tools are in good working order.
• Manage the supply of asphalt and ensure efficient usage to minimize waste.
• Address and resolve any operational or team-related issues.
• Act as a bridge between management and employees by sharing updates, policies, and goals.
• Mediate and resolve disputes or misunderstandings within the team.
• Provide clear and actionable feedback regularly.
• Ensure team compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
• Ensure asphalt work complies with local building codes, environmental regulations, and quality standards.
• Conduct inspections to ensure the finished asphalt work meets all specifications.
• Ensure proper cleanup of tools, equipment, and debris from the site.
• Record all relevant data, including material use, hours worked, and issues encountered.
• Any other task assigned by the line Manager.

Desired Skills and Experience

• Knowledge of asphalt paving techniques, materials, and machinery.
• Strong leadership and communication abilities.
• Proficiency in reading blueprints and technical drawings.
• Understanding of safety standards and environmental regulation
• Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Understanding different types of asphalt mixtures (e.g., hot mix, warm mix, cold mix) and their applications.
• Knowledge of processes like grading, subgrade preparation, laying, rolling, and compaction of asphalt.
• Familiarity with asphalt paving machines, rollers, milling machines, and their operation and maintenance.
• Knowledge of asphalt industry standards, including mix design, temperature control, and compaction requirements.
• Understanding testing methods for density, thickness, temperature, and smoothness to ensure quality.
• Ability to recognize defects like segregation, cracking, or uneven surfaces and take corrective actions.
• Knowledge of regulations governing emissions, waste disposal, and noise control in asphalt operations.
• In-depth knowledge of occupational safety standards specific to construction and asphalt paving.
