Shonga Farms Holding Nigeria Ltd was incorporated as a Special Purpose Vehicle to facilitate public-private partnership in respect to the commercial farming project of the Kwara State Government.
The Company has gained worldwide fame for revolutionizing agriculture business in partnership with commercial farmers from Zimbabwe. It is one of the success stories of Nigeria’s quest for improved Agricultural production and food sufficiency.
Shonga Farms Holding Ltd, through its subsidiaries, engages in mixed, diary, and poultry farming. It produces in commercial quantities such crops as maize, rice, cassava, ginger, soya bean, milk and poultry meat. It has greatly enhanced food production in Kwara State. The Farms’ chicken processing plant has capacity to process 10,000 chickens per day at full capacity, while the Diary Farm has the capacity to process up to 50,000 liters of milk per day.
The Farms currently supplies 2,500 liters of raw milk to WAMCO (producers of PEAK MILK) daily. The poultry farm, whose facility has the capacity for 12Million broiler chickens per day, currently supplies chicken to the fast food company Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) in Lagos. It also supplies banana to the retail store, SHOPRITE.
The success of Shonga Farms has led to several new developments in Kwara State. Through the Farm alone, between 3,000-4,000 persons are employed during the harvesting season. Several investors like WAMCO and OLAM are currently operating in Kwara State, creating employment opportunities for its residents, while several others are now showing interest in investing in the Kwara State agricultural sector.
