Starzs Marine Engineering Limited (SMEL) is a limited liability company incorporated in Nigeria on 28th October, 1992. SMEL is the operator of Starzs Shipyard, the oldest privately-owned indigenous ship repair yard in the country, which is located in the Oil and Gas Free Zone Onne, Rivers State. The shipyard occupies a total land area of 7.38 hectares with approximately 210m of waterfront. Currently the company operates with a 500 tons Floating Dock.
The Company provides dry docking and afloat repair services to Nigerian Shipowners, Nigerian Regulatory Agencies such as NIMASA and NPA as well as the Nigerian Navy. Since inception, it has successfully carried out over 900 dry docking projects with a wide array of work scope
The Shipyard also provides non-ship related engineering works and Maritime consultancy services to the Oil and Gas Industry in Nigeria. Fabrication of Barges, Offshore Units and Jackup Rig afloat repairs has been carried out by the Shipyard.
As a fully indigenous company with a 100% Nigerian workforce, we support the continuous development and training of Nigerian Maritime cadets providing training opportunities for over 30 trainees annually.
