The Problem
Over 35% of farm produce are either lost at harvest or post harvest due to broken value chain and uncertain or unavailable access to market for smallholder farmers. (Processing and access to markets)
With two-thirds of the extremely poor population of the world residing in Africa and over 60% of these depending on agriculture, there is a huge challenge of improving the agricultural value-chain to help these populations escape their poverty. These rural, small-holder farmers suffer the absence of access to capital, technical support and access to market with as much as 35% of harvests lost annually to the lack of market access.
