Protection and durable solutions to people who have been forced to flee

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC promotes and protects the rights of people who have been forced to flee their countries, or their homes within their countries. It is the only Norwegian organisation that specialises in international efforts aimed at this target group.

The majority of our approximately 4700 staff members are national employees in NRC’s projects in more than 20 countries in Africa, Asia and America. All our projects are run from the head office in Oslo, Norway.

Programme Activities: NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water, sanitation and hygiene sectors.

Advocacy: NRC is an independent and courageous spokesperson for refugee and IDP rights.

Emergency Response: NRC has some 850 men and women in its Emergency Standby Roster and can deploy anywhere in the world to support the UN and other international organisations with humanitarian aid and emergency relief operations.

The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) in Geneva monitors and provides up-to date information on all situations of conflict-induced internal displacement
