MitiMeth is an indigenous Award winning Social Enterprise located in Ibadan. MitiMeth creates handicraft products from water weeds (water hyacinth, typha grass), and other agro-waste. Through harvesting and transformation activities, MitiMeth aims to drastically reduce weed infestation and congestion in the lagoons, rivers and creeks thereby providing the riverine communities with increased access to the water bodies for fishing and other livelihood activities whilst concurrently providing alternate income generating opportunities. MitiMeth also trains riverine/ riparian communities on handicraft product development and employs local hands to create eco-friendly handicrafts (home décor and personal accessories) from water weeds prevalent on Nigeria’s waterways. MitiMeth has trained over 80 women and youth from 10 communities. MitiMeth is currently looking to establish domestic and international distribution platforms for natural fibre products handcrafted by cooperatives it has trained in the riverine communities and other Artisan teams across Nigeria.
Locally made with global appeal, MitiMeth's vision is to become Nigeria's #1 choice in eco-friendly handcrafted products and to become a key non-oil exporter by the year 2016. Transforming Nigeria's communities and waterways one water weed at a time.
